Presentation of the Yearbook Quality of the Media 2025
Almost half of the people in Switzerland hardly ever consume news, and when they do, it is mostly via social media. In 2025, the proportion of so-called news-deprived reached a new high of over 46 percent. What does this development mean for the population's level of information, political participation and social cohesion? Is it possible to stay well informed without direct access to journalistic content? Growing news deprivation not only has social consequences but also poses major challenges for media companies – exacerbated by the increasing use of AI chatbots.
The Yearbook Quality of Media 2025 highlights these developments and offers up-to-date analyses on AI chatbot sources, media professionals' assessments of the use of AI in journalism, and on developments in the quality, use and financing of Swiss media.
